Hi Team!
Early access is here for you now to the latest rather epic trip – if I do say so myself!
After 10 years, previous permits in hand, plans with others that didn’t pan out, I finally made it to Southesk Lake, one of the most remote areas in all of Jasper National Park.
This was no ordinary trip.
My friend Scott and I did not take the usual route! Well, we did for the first three days and then we decided to attempt to exit rarely rarely done: from Southesk Lake all the way to Maligne Lake! This ended up being one for the books.
Next step on the agenda are some car repairs unfortunately. Second time this summer that I’ve had issues with the vehicle, the first time cost me a some time off the trail and resulted in some significant repairs. This time however, it should be a very simple fix and hopefully far far less investment than the last one! My friend Anne has been kind enough to lend me her camper van if I need it so I can do this next trip and leave my vehicle at the shop for repairs.
For this next trip, my friend JJ and I are going to head up the Moose River (LOTS of fords…) and eventually swing around to Adolphus campsite on Jasper’s North Boundary Trail. From here we will traverse the entire “new” Berg Lake Trail down to the car in one day.
I’m excited to see the new trail, because after a very serious flood/washouts/slides and a number of years closed, BC Parks has done a serious reroute of a good chunk of this iconic and highly scenic trail. I’m pretty happy I can get this on video for everyone to see!
Following that and in no particular order will be an exploration of some of the less travelled front ranges in Banff National Park from Ya Ha Tinda Ranch, a visit finally to Douglas Lake and the valley of the hidden lakes, and the HBC Heritage Trail in British Columbia to name just a few.
It’s hard to believe it is September already! But there’s still plenty of time in this area to put in a lot more time on the trail and then it will be off to other areas where weather will not be less of a factor!
I hope you enjoy this unique trip that Scott and I just finished and I will keep you up-to-date on my fall plans as they come together. Still plenty of work to do to try to hit my goal!
And of course, having you here every step of the way means so much to me!
Thank you :-)
Stuart
